Continuum of Services
The Gifted & Talented Program at Anna L. Klein School provides specialized, needs-based services for students who demonstrate exceptionally high levels of ability in one or more academic areas when compared to their age-level peers. The program offers appropriately challenging educational experiences and opportunities designed to support and extend these students’ learning. Please review our criteria for placement.
The Guttenberg School District primarily provides Gifted & Talented services through Tier 2: Targeted Enrichment. These services include pull-out programs and cluster grouping to support differentiated instruction and enrichment opportunities. In select cases, students may also receive Tier 3: Intensive Individualized Services, which provide highly personalized learning experiences, including opportunities for academic acceleration.
Learn About The Language:
Enrichment: refers to the presentation of curricular content with more depth, breadth, complexity, or abstractness than the general curriculum. Enrichment allows for exploration in individual interest areas. Opportunities are provided within the Gifted and Talented pull out model, as well as in general classroom settings, and also in afterschool programs or clubs.
Acceleration : to present the curriculum content earlier or at a faster pace. Options may include:
- Accelerating curriculum in the general classroom
- Attending classrooms that are above-grade level to prepare and observe
- Placement in honors classes (math)
Differentiation: New Jersey Learning Standards are taught while utilizing differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of all identified students. Differentiated classrooms allow a gifted student to gain a deeper and broader understanding of the curriculum content. For Gifted and Talented students, choice is a vital component. In alignment with the NJSLS and best practices for gifted education, teachers differentiate by process, product, content and learning environment.
Cluster Grouping: Gifted & Talented students are grouped together in a classroom with a teacher who differentiated the curriculum and environment.
Gifted & Talented Pull Out Classes: The Gifted and Talented teacher will pull out students from non-core classes for a differentiated learning experience addressing the individual needs of highly gifted students.
Advanced Content Classes: A Gifted and Talented student, specifically in grades seven and eight, advanced level courses are designed to provide a more rigorous curriculum and higher expectations for student performance. These courses are considered honors classes.
